Tuesday evening at 9:15pm, Mrs Elizabeth Detling, another well known and highly esteemed resident of our portion of the city, entered into eternal rest after a two weeks serious illness. Death came to the aged lady with her full knowledge and not unwelcome. Her reception of the grim reaper was a peaceful one, just as her life was, and the aged husband and bereaved daughter, now linger in the memory of an excellent christian mother. For nearly forty years she has made north Urbana her home and enjoyed the love and esteem of every one. Our earliest recollection of the estimable lady was in our early childhood, when we visited frequently Mr Detlings well known shoe shop in Russell Street. Many times we watched her knitting and wondered at the rapidity with which the deft fingers plied the needles and further noted the pretty quilt pieces artistically combined, as she kept her husband company during the afternoon hours. We always found the same lovable woman, and her every day life was lived in preparation for the life to come. Her funeral occurred from St Marys church on Friday morning, with requiem high mass song by Rev Father Hickey, and the comforting words in his sermond after the mass will long be remembered by her family and friends.
