Mary Campbell Foster was a daughter of Robert Foster and Isabella Hearst of Columbia County, Pennsylvania, b.May 30, 1826. Robert and Isabella had been wed in 1817 and first relocated to Ohio in the early 1830's. Robert had died of cholera in 1843. Isabella continued on with her children to Indiana where she passed away in 1852. The adult children continued Westward to the Oregon Territory, arriving in time to be counted in the 1860 census. Mary married (Robert) Olney Fry, Jr. in 1852 and they were in the 1860 census, along Olney's brother, Nathan, his wife, Elizabeth, and their son, Richard, who, from the way the census was taken, most likely had adjoining donation land grants. Mary and Robert were blessed with Robert William, Franklin Pierce, John Olney and Rosella by the time the 1870 census was taken.
When Olney Fry and his wife, Celinda (Bennett) Fry, came across the Plains to Oregon Territory in 1852, they had brought their nine children with them, Robert Olney Fry, Jr., among them. The other children with them were Mary Jane, Roxie, Laban, Alfred, Richard, Martin Markham, Lucy E., and Nathan Fry. Sadly, Celinda passed from this life after only seven years, in 1859. She was buried at the Riverside Cemetery in Albany. Olney Fry remarried in 1867 to Elizabeth (Lane) Perry, the widow of James M.Perry who had come to Oregon with her husband from Missouri in 1853. Mary & (Robert) Olney Fry, Jr. lived the remainder of their lives in Albany. Mary lived to be only 56 years of age before passing away in 1882. She was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Albany. Olney Fry, Jr. was long lived like his father, living into the 20th Century. He died at the age of 79 and was laid to rest beside his beloved wife at the Riverside Cemetery in Albany, Linn Co., Oregon.
