Robert William Fry was born to Olney Fry and Mary Campbell (Foster) Fry, both immigrants to Oregon with their respective families [the Fosters in 1847 and the Frys in 1852], a child of the Oregon Territory, born Sept 15, 1855, before Oregon had become a State (1859). His parents farmed the rich land of the Willamette Valley in the Albany area. When he came of age, he married Francis Irene Susannah Swank (b. May 11, 1873) on Nov 6th, 1895 in Linn County, Oregon. They settled in the Tallman area of Linn County, farming land there. They were blessed with a daughter whom they named Donna Roberta, in Dec 1899, (most likely named after Irene's sister, Donna Catherine Swank, who was staying with them when the 1900 US Census was taken on June 8th, 1900. Donna Swank was b. Nov 1880, and was listed as a "boarder" on the census.) The 1910 census finds the couple and their daughter living in the Price Precinct of Linn County, having been married for 14 years, and making their living on a "Home Farm". The 1920 Census was taken on Jan 6th and it was at this time that Robert, his wife and soon to be married daughter moved into the town of Albany. Robert was now 64 and may have been having health issues, for they moved to a house they purchased at 816 W. 9th Street in Albany, which is quite a difference from quiet farm living. Donna married John B. Marquis, originally from Kansas, and they went on to have 4 children of their own, living with her parents in the house on W. 9th St. Robert was diagnosed with stomach cancer in Sept. 1920 and suffered with it until he passed on March 11th, 1931. He was laid to rest at the Masonic Cemetery in Albany. Irene never remarried, but continued to share the family home with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren until she, too, passed from this life on March 7th, 1969 at the age of 95 yrs., within two months of her 96th birthday. She shares her headstone with Robert, her beloved husband, who she now joined in Heaven, leaving behind her daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
