Kathryn "Kay" Barbara ( Mayerle) Childs (70)was born Oct. 24, 1912 in Nashwauk, MN one of six children ( Joseph, Katherine, Jack, Julie, Frank J., Leonard J. ) born to Joseph Mayerle and Kathryn Ozanic Mayerle . Her parents built one of the first log cabin homes in Keewatin, MN. Kathryn. Katherine attended St. Cecilia's Catholic Church growing up in Nashwauk, Minnesota.

On Sept. 4, 1937 in Nashwauk, MN Kathryn "Kay" Barbara Mayerle married Delbert Guy Childs the second of five children born to Guy Truman Childs and May Barbara Steiber.

Delbert's father, Guy T. Childs, was also a Iron Ore Miner, and then a Blandin paper mill employee (Grand Rapids, MN) who determined the exact color of the paper before computers . Dell and Kay lived nearly all of their married life in Grand Rapids, MN. Kay and Del did not have children. Del and Kay also owned land and a cabin on Lake Pokegama where they loved to fish and take boat rides.

Upon Del's retirement, they sold their house in Grand Rapids, MN and moved to their lake front property on Lake Pokegama, MN. Here is where they boated, fished, hunted, gardened, watched wildlife and her husband did wood crafting in his shop. They kept a beautiful lawn with all sorts of flowers. When Kay died, Del missed her greatly and especially would mention what a great cook she was. His favorite supper Kay made was Italian spaghetti.

At Kay's funeral at the Rowe Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, three of her brothers (Joseph, Leonard, and Frank, were pallbearers.

Kay was survived by her husband, Delbert Guy Childs; and brothers, Frank, Leonard, Joseph and Robert Mayerle and her brother in law, Wilbur Childs and sisters' in law, Esther Childs Rowe, Evelyn Childs Long, and Florence Childs Browne.

She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Mayerle and Kathryn Ozanic Mayerle and father in law, Guy Truman Childs who died in 1963.
