Mrs. Kautz, 84, of Oronoco, died Monday (Sept. 1, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Doris Mae Markham was born March 15, 1924, in Sumner Township, Fillmore County. Her family moved to Oronoco, where she graduated from Coon Grove School in 1938. She worked at the Kahler Hotel until marrying Gaylord Earl Kautz on Jan. 19, 1946, in Rochester. They moved to California, where she did housecleaning for a military officer, and later returned to Oronoco, where they reared their four children.
Mrs. Kautz worked at Libby's, Kresge, and the Sandy Point Supper Club. She was a member of the Coon Grove birthday club and the Coon Grove Card Club, and enjoyed baking, making ribbon candy, and gardening. She was recently crowned queen at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Ronald) Fuller of Oronoco; three sons, Gary (Sandra) of Oronoco, Larry (Bev) of Pine Island and Barry (Deb) of Zumbro Falls; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Vernon (Eunice) Markham and William (Hazel) Markham, both of Oronoco, Bernard (Betty) Markham of Rochester and Leon (Virginia) Markham of Mantorville. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 24, 2008, and two brothers, Henry and Leonard Markham.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Mahler Chapel in Pine Island, and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.
