Sir Thomas Fairfax, 3rd Lord Fairfax of Cameron. English nobleman, politician, general, and Parliamentary commander-in-chief serving in the English Civil War. He was a leader who knew many victories. His nickname "Black Tom" because of his dark  hair and eyes.
Fairfax was born at Denton Hall, the eldest son of Ferdinando Fairfax, 2nd Lord Fairfax of Cameron. Fairfax enjoyed literature, translating some Psalms, and penned many poems.
He married Hon. Anne de Vere, daughter of Horace Vere, 1st Baron Vere of Tilbury and Mary Tracy, on 20 June 1637. They had a daughter, Hon. Mary Fairfax (b. 30 July 1638 – d. 20 October 1704), who wed George Villiers, 2nd Duke of Buckingham.
