Leonard A. Simon, a long time resident of Willow Springs, passed away this morning, Thursday, February 12, 2015, while at Willow Care Nursing Home from natural causes. Born December 22, 1920 in Topeka, KS to August and Ellen (Linnebur) Simon; he was 94 years old.
Leonard and his family moved here to Willow Springs from Topeka, KS in 1930. During WWII, Leonard was called upon to serve his Country in the US Army where he proudly served as a radar technician, attaining the rank of E5 Sergeant. On April 22, 1946; he was married to Lola Mae Rader. To this union four children were born. After the war, Leonard returned to Missouri where he went to work for MoDot in Jefferson City. In 1963, he transferred to Ava, MO where he was promoted to a supervisor until retiring in 1975. In 1980, he and his family returned to Willow Springs where he remained and was a long time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Leonard loved the outdoors and had many enjoyments in his life which included working on his farm, fishing, grilling, and traveling. However, he especially liked spending time with his grandkids. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Lewis Edward Simon; a daughter-in-law, Deloris Simon; and a granddaughter, Shonna Ruth Simon. He is further predeceased by his sister Elmeda Simon, Dorothy Adams, and Louise Lilya.
He is survived by his children Leland R. Simon and his wife Debra; Larry W. Simon and his wife Debbie; and LaDonna C. Owens and her husband Lonnie all of Willow Springs. He is further survived by his grandchildren Lance E. Simon and his wife Kathy of Oak Grove, MO; Robert L. Simon of Riverton, WY; Matthew D. Owens and his wife Dawn of Willow Springs; Ashley N. Simon and Drew E. Simon both of Springfield, MO; one great granddaughter, Andrea S. Simon of Oak Grove, MO; and two great grandsons Donivan and Jackson Owens of Springfield, MO. He also leaves one brother, Kenneth Simon and his wife Louise of Mtn. View, MO as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
