Auburn, ILL, June 7 -

Died at the residence of James H. Rape, this morning at 8 o'clock, John Brownell, sr., aged 87 years, 9 months and 23 days. Mr. Brownell was one of the first settlers of Sangamon county. He was born in Rhode Island in 1800 and came to this county in 1819, settling in Ball township. In 1891 he was married to Nancy Pulliam, daughter of Robert Pulliam, who was the first settler of the county. There were 9 children born to them, all of whom are still living. Mr. Brownell had been in feeble health for a long time, but was about at times and last Sunday, while walking around, fell and broke his left leg at the thigh, which resulted in his death.
