Eli Lincoln Mercer, the third son of James and Eliza Mercer, was born January 31, 1864, near Derby, Iowa, and passed away May 19, 1939, at Cozad, Nebr. thus reaching the age of 75 years, 3 months and 19 days.
He was united in marriage with Nevada Hughes at Smith Center, Kan. January 11, 1887. This union was blessed with seven sons and two daughters
After marriage they moved to Nebraska in 1889. They homesteaded near Farnam in 1892 where they resided until 1920, when they moved to Cozad where he lived until his death.
He was a kind and considerate father and a thoughtful husband.
He was proceded in death by two sons, Walter Lincoln and Henry James. He leaves to mourn his departure his deeply sorrowing wife and the following children; Mrs A.O. Heumphreus of Farnam, Jess Mercer of Orafino; Dan Mercer of Thedford; Guy Mercer of Mullen; Theodore of Orafino; Mrs Earl Haney of Holbrook; Dale Mercer of Goodland, Kan., Mrs Harry Osborne; twenty-three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Five grandchildren preceded him in death.
Funeral services where held Sunday at the Davis Funeral Home in Cozad. Internment was in the Eustis Cemetery.
