Suzanne "Suzy" Paula Woods was the only girl in a family of six boys, but became the mother of five girls. Sadly, one daughter, Anaya Beth, died in March of 2007 due to complications of a premature birth.

Suzy, who was diabetic, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at the age of 30 in Winnebago, Neb., where she had been making her home.

Suzy was born July 30, 1978, to Robert D. Woods and Charleen Four Bear in Rapid City, the only sister of Jeffrey, Eddie, Robby, David, Kola and Kyle. Her native name was Sihasapa Win or Black Foot Woman. She attended school in Eagle Butte and received her GED in Minnesota in 1998, the same year her daughter Caeley Jennifer was born. Suzy returned to Marksville, S.D., in 2002. She met her special friend, Dan Wolff, and moved to Winnebago in 2004. It was in Winnebago that Anaya Beth was born.

Suzy enjoyed gardening, cooking, music and spending time with the children and her nieces and nephews. She was especially skilled working with computers.

She leaves her daughter Caeley, Dan Wolff, girls Ashley, Danya, Ellyson, special granddaughter Persayus and her mother-in-law, Winona Armell, all of Winnebago; mother, Charleen Four Bears of Marksville; father, Robert D. (Carmen) Woods Sr. of Okreek; brothers, Jeffrey (Kara) four Bear, Eddie Gunderson Four Bear, Robert (Kirby) Woods Jr., David (Catlin) Woods I, Kola Eagle Hunter, Ake (Kyle) Eagle Hunter; maternal uncles Curtis Marshall, Stan (Stephanie) Four Bear, Keith (Pat) Marshall, Michael (Judy) Four Bear; maternal aunts, Jennifer Moulash, Cheryl Four Bear, Doretta (Ronnie) Bowker and Lisa Four Bear; paternal uncles, Mark (Teresa) Woods, Nick (Autumn) Woods; paternal aunts, Molly Woods, Kitty (Harold) Tiger, Sherry Woods, Tracey (Dave) Ouelette; and grandmothers, Marcella LeBeau, Doris White and Marlene Bowker.

In addition to her daughter Anaya Beth Wolff, Suzy was preceded in death by her grandparents Joe Paul and Hazel Four Bear, Dorothy Garreau, aunt Deanna Four Bear and uncle Jo Paul Fr., and Eugene Four Bear, paternal grandparents Walter and Anne Woods, aunt Victoria Woods and cousin Joseph Paul Garreau.

The funeral for Suzanne was held Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Old Agency Community Building in Eagle Butte. The Rev. Norman Blue Coat and Lay Reader Doris White officiated. E.J. Gunville, Sisters in Harmony and other singers provided special music.

Casketbearers were Jeffrey Four Bear, Edward Lee Gunderson Four Bear, Robert D. Woods Jr., David P. Woods I, Kola Eagle Hunter, Ake (Kyle) Eagle Hunter, David Paul Woods II, Patali'one Inukiha Angana Eagle Hunter and Joshua Bass. Honorary bears were the Winnebago Dialysis Unit and all Suzy's other relatives and friends.

Burial was at the Winnebago Cemetery in Nebraska under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge.
