Mr. Vades Richard Shields, 91, of Goodman, Mo., formerly of Southwest City, Mo., died at 6:24 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Gravette Medical Center in Gravette, Ark., after a short stay.

Vades R. Shields was born Dec. 9, 1911, on the Saratoga Prairie northeast of Southwest City, Mo.

He owned and farmed a portion of land which had originally belonged to his great-great-grandfather who settled on the prairie in 1846. He was a 20-year member of the ASC Office in Anderson, Mo.

Vades married Gladys Ethel Moore June 9, 1934.

She preceded him in death Sept. 5, 1979.

Also preceding him in death was a son, Vades Duane, both parents, and his sister, Gladys (Shields) Womack.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Dorothy and Bill Beauchamp of Goodman, Mo., and Donna and Rudy Gonzalez of Southwest City, Mo.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Gale and Betty Renner of Hiwasse, Ark., Gene and Patti Renner of Wagoner, Okla., Giffard and Janie Renner of Grove, Okla., Marla Raylene and Fred Lamb of Goodman, Mo., and Keith Honeyman of Joplin, Mo.; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Vades R. Shields will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2003, at the Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City, Mo. The Rev. Jack Sawyer will officiate.

Burial will be in the Southwest City Cemetery in Southwest City, Mo.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 10, 2003, at the Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City, Mo., from noon until 8 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Saratoga Springs Cemetery or Fairview Cemetery.
