Born in Gibson County, TN. Family living at Davis Shop, Gibson Co. TN at the 1870 Census. Her father was a Baptist minister and farmer. At the age of 19 she married William Hatton Bunn. They lived in Dyersburg TN where their first 4 children were born: Walter (died in infancy), Pearl, Ora and Emerson. They then rode the train to Claremore, Oklahoma Indian Territory where they were met at the station by a brother of William, Newton Thompson Bunn. William and Alma built a home there. At their home in Claremore she gave birth to Clyde, Nancy Lucile, Mamie (died as a child) and Earl. Another daughter was born but died soon after the birth as did Alma. Alma had asked for the attending of a female doctor in Claremore for the first time during childbirth. The family seemed to blame the death of their mother on the doctor as she contracted blood poisoning shortly after giving birth.
According to her son Emerson, Alma was melancholy in disposition, enjoyed singing as she worked, enjoyed motherhood and the lives of her husband and her growing children, the tending of a garden and the caring for the family milk cow. She encouraged her children to lead honorable lives and to join the Claremore First Baptist church. At her sudden death her family was deeply bereaved.
