Master Corporal, 2nd Mazowiecka Sapper Brigade based in Kazun. He was deployed with Poland's contingent of NATO forces serving in Afghanistan.
He was one of three Polish soldiers killed, along with another injured, when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb during a combat patrol about 20 km from their base in Ghazni province. The dead were later repatriated to Warsaw and each received a posthumous promotion in rank. In addition, each was awarded the Knight's Cross of the the Order of the Military Cross.
Waldemar Sujdak, aged 28, was from Dębica and had 8 years service in the military. He was the father of a three year old daughter. His funeral was held on August 26, 2008 at St. Hedwig Church in Dębica.
About 1,200 Polish troops are currently deployed in Afghanistan and there have now been eight fatalities since 2001.
