Mrs. Alta Elizabeth Bird, 69, life long resident of the rural community southeast of here, died at Marshall Browning Hospital Sunday morning, following an illness that began in January. She was the wife of Jacob Bird.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Eugene Kaufman at Holts Prairie Baptist Church at 2:00 Monday afternoon. Interment in the nearby church cemetery.

The deceased, whose maiden name was Alta Elizabeth Harvey, was born in Farron County, Texas, December 19, 1870, though she had spent most of her life in Perry County. Her marriage to Jacob Bird occured in Pinckneyville in October, 1888. She had held membership in the Holts Prairie Baptist Church for many years.

The deceased is survived by her husband; her aged mother, Mrs. Malissa Ann Queen; one son, Frank Bird of Du Quoin; three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Della B.) Omer of Grove City, KY.; Mrs. Roy (Bessie F.) Moss of Benton; and Miss Bertha Bird of Du Quoin; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Matilda Hamilton of Du Quoin; Mrs. Nannie Vaughn of Creal Springs; two half-sisters, Mrs. John Shannon of Valier and Mrs. Andrew Rice of Du Quoin; one half-brother, Abijah Queen of Du Quoin.

Alta is the daughter of Orin H. and Melissa Ann Cavins Harvey. She married Jacob Bird on October 23, 1888, in Pinckneyville, IL. Their children:, Edward, Della B. (Omer), Jonas, Bessie F. (Moss), Bertha S. (Riead) and Marion Frank Bird.
