Avis was born in Meadora, Iowa to Howard Curtis Adamson and Winnie Wasson and lived in Iowa until 1916 when her family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Avis married Earl Forister and had two children Mike and Lana. She was a secretary for the state of Wyoming Workers Compensation department for 15 years, a member of First Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star Oak Leaf Chapter, and Weed and Seed Garden Club. Avis died at Whispering Pines in Pine Bluffs at the age of 96.
