STEWART ANNAN DIES, AGED 58 - Deputy Collector Of Internal Revenue Ill Five Weeks.
J. SREWART ANNAN, deputy collector of internal revenue for the Western and Southern Maryland, died at the Washington County Hospital on Saturday midnight from complications, aged 58 years. He had been ill about five weeks.
Mr. Annan was born March 9, 1874 at Emmitsburg, Frederick County, the son of James Cochran and Rose J. (Stewart) Annan.
He received his education in the schools of Emmitsburg and later attended New Windsor College, the Chambersburg, Pa., Academy and Lafayette College. After leaving college, he managed Elizabeth Morrison Annanbig farms in the Emmitsburg district and was active in community interests. He served for four years as County Commissioner of Frederick County, being elected in 1907. He was also interested in the Emmitsburg Water Company and in the banking business. For about nine years he had been in Federal service as deputy collector with headquarters here.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was active in Masonry, being a member of Tyrian Lodge, A.F and A. M., Knights Templar, Mystic Shrine, and the Elks.
He was a loyal Republican.
Besides his widow, Elizabeth Morrison Annan, he is survived by the following children: Margaret, Hagerstown; Jane, Balimore, and sons; James Cockran, John Stewart, Jr., and William Morrison Annan, all of this city.
The body was removed to his home, 5 Summit avenue, where funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:45 o'clock, by the Rev. Dr. William S. Hess. Interment will be made in the Prsbyterian Cemetery at Emmitsburg.
