FRIONA - Jessie Vernon Douglas, 90, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Friona Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Colwell of Friona and Guy Ellis of Clarendon officiating. Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home.

Jessie was born May 26, 1918, in Wellington, to Jesse A. and Sarah Nelson Vernon. She married Joe B. Douglas on May 7, 1940, in Pampa.

In 1942, she moved to Friona form Mobeetie. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Friona and Friona Senior Citizens.

After graduation, she attended beauty school and obtained her beauticians license. She and her husband owned Douglas Land Co. for many years and she had her real estate and insurance license with which she sold insurance and real estate. She was also a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband Sept. 1, 1985.

Survivors include two sons, J.B. Douglas of Friona and Dan Douglas of Ridgefield, Wash.; a daughter, Nelda Grider of Howardwick; seven grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
