ROCHESTER — The funeral for Alfred A. Andrist will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2124 Viola Road N.E., in Rochester; the Rev. Fred Rengstorf will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Andrist, 92, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2008) at Samaritan Bethany Heights in Rochester.
Alfred Allen Andrist was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Clearwater County, Minn. As a young man, he moved with his family to southern Minnesota. He was married to Gloria Weis, and they had four children. They divorced in 1963. Mr. Andrist also farmed up until that time.
On Sept. 3, 1966, he married Betty Amundson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Byron. They were Shaklee supervisors, and he worked for Mayo Clinic. He retired in 1981. He and his wife then split their time between Grand Rapids, Minn., and Tucson, Ariz. Mr. Andrist loved fishing, hunting, camping, traveling in their motorhome and nature, as well as the North Country, family visits and playing his banjo.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Duane (Sandy) of Rochester; a daughter, Jane (Jim) Alder of Carefree, Ariz.; three stepsons, Gary of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mike (Cyndi) of Tucson, and Bruce (Deb) Amundson of Chatfield; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann (Arnold) Stafford of Pine Island. He was preceded in death by two sons, an infant, Steven, and Mark; five brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be an hour before the service at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic for research of Lewy Body Dementia or to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
