EDITH MYRL TIERNEY was born in the small mining town of Murphy, Idaho October 3, 1903 to Minnie Etta Calkins Hutchinson Tierney and Patrick J Tierney.
Edith had one brother, Ralph Roger 1885 and two sisters, Ellen Inez 1886 and Grace Opal 1889 from Minnie's first marriage to Elias Hutchinson. Minnie married Patrick Tierney in 1895 and they had five children together, Alice Coral 1895; Garnett Dewey 1898; Lloyd Martin 1901, Edith Myrl 1903; Stephen Patrick 1906. When Edith was only four years of age, her mother Minnie Etta died leaving her Tierney children divided among relatives. Their father, Patrick was away working in the mines in Idaho much of the time until sometime around 1910 when he disappeared under mysterious circumstances and was never seen again by any of the family. Edith went to live with her older sister, Grace and moved with Grace and her husband, Jesse Shaw and their children to Long Beach, Ca in the early 1920s. Shortly thereafter Edith met her future husband William Edwin "Eddie" Blair when he was vacating in Long Beach. They were married in Santa Ana, Ca on Feb. 16, 1927 and moved to Arizona. Eddie was a hard rock miner for most of his early life. Except for the few years during the height of the Great Depression when they lived in Siskiyou County, Northern California, Edith and Ed lived and raised their three children in Superior, Arizona where he worked for the Magma Copper Mine. In 1945 at the close of WWII Ed gave up mining for good and moved the family to Ukiah, California where he and Edith were employed at Mendocino State Hospital as psychiatric technicians for many years, retiring in 1965.
Edith Myrl Tierney Blair, age 65 died Friday, June 13, 1969 at Ukiah General Hospital. Rev. Travis Hyatt of the Presbyterian Church officiated during her Monday morning services on June 16, 1969 at the Eversole Mortuary before she was laid to rest in the Ukiah Cemetery. At the time of her death, Edith was survived by her husband, William Edwin "Ed" Blair, Sr. and three children: William E. "Bill" Blair, Jr. and Barbara Pittman, both of Ukiah, and Ruth Miller of Upper Lake; a brother, Steve Tierney of Talmage; two sisters, Grace Shaw of Long Beach and Alice Gossi of Idaho; and eight grandchildren.
