"Death Takes Veteran Court Reporter
Funeral services for John Samuel Farrington, 70, of 1708 Forest Hills Dr., Utah court reporter for 30 years who died Thursday afternoon (4:45 p.m.) at his home of causes incident to advanced age, will be conducted Monday at 12:15 p.m. at 36 East Seventh South St.

Friends may call at place of funeral Saturday evening and Sunday and Monday prior to services. Burial will be in Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Mr. Farrington was official district court reporter for two years in the Sixth Judicial District, Richfield; six years in the Second Judicial District, Ogden, and until his retirement Sept. 24, 1947 fill the same position in the Third Judicial District, Salt Lake City.

He was born Nov. 18, 1878, son of John and Elizabeth Brooks Farrington. He was married to Nettie Snowball in Salt Lake City, Nov. 19, 1902 (L.D.S. Temple).

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and fulfilled a mission in Germany and Switzerland in 1905. Prior to the mission, Mr. Farington had been cashier for the Mutual Life Insurance Company. He later held the same position with the Utah Savings & Trust Company.

He had been secretary of the Salt Lake Garden Club and was a member of the Utah Rose and American Rose Societies. He was an organizer of the Municipal Rose Garden.

Surviving, besides his widow, are a son, John S. Farrington Jr., Salt Lake City; two brothers, Richard C. Farrington, Portland, Ore., and Frank D. Farrington, Salt Lake City, and three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Kemp, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Ethel Snow and Mrs. Ella Garvey, Los Angeles."

Cause of death: Nephritis

John was called by Joseph F. Smith to serve a mission to Switzerland and Germany. He left Salt Lake City on July 12, 1905. He was, "honorably released as President of the Zurich Conference with permission to return home on the steamship which sails July 20, 1906 ... by Serge F. Ballif, President of the Swiss and German Mission." He served one year in Switzerland.
John received an early release due to poor health of his sweet wife, Aunt Nettie.
