U.S. Congressman. Successful in agricultural pursuits, he was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, (1803-07) and served in the Pennsylvania State Senate, (1811-15). In 1819, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Congresses, serving until 1823. After leaving Congress, he retired from public service and returned to his agricultural interests until his death at age 62.
