James Pryor Lowe was the oldest son of Fountain Bird, Sr., and Judy Staton Lowe. His siblings were Avery "Bud," John Henry, Nancy, Piety, Rebecca Jane, George Washington, Charles Brown, Lawyer, Arminda "Min," William "Bill," Anderson Hatfield "Anse," Prilliman "Prill," Fountain Bird, Jr., Callahan, Mary Ann, Baby Larkin, and two stillborn babies. He married Margaret Maynard, daughter of Hammond and Elizabeth Taylor Maynard, about 1877.
Their children were Henderson "Hent," Vista, Laura, Victoria, Judy, Angeline "Tiny," Elan, John M., and Alice Vivian.
