Cecil D. Wood, 44, an Army veteran of twenty years service, died at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D. C. at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 22. He had been in failing health for the past eighteen months and a patient at Walter Reed for eight months.
Born on June 12, 1906, at Rileyville, Va., he was a son the late David B. and Mattie U. Martin Wood.
Had he lived until fall he would have retired from a long career in the Army. Of his twenty years of service, four had been spent overseas. He was a World War veteran, and a member of the W??ville Pilgrim Church, of Washington, D. C.
Surviving are four brothers and two sisters: Carl L. Wood and John Wood, of Rileyville, Kirby Wood, of Ellicott, Md., Ray Wood of Front Royal, Mrs. Merle Weaver, and Mrs. Marie Fagan of Washington, D. C. A brother and sister are deceased.
The body remained at the Bradley Funeral Home until the hour of the funeral on Sunday. Rev. T. M. Weir, of Washington, and Rev. T. C. Techenell, of Bentonville, were in charge of the last rites which took place at the Union Church in Rileyville.
Burial was in the Rileyville Cemetery. Active pallbearers were members of the American Legion and honorary pallbearers were members of both Legion and V. F. W.
