Geraldine "Pat" Mathews, 94, of Bentonville, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by The Rev. Dr. Wayne Woodard. Interment will follow in Bentonville Cemetery in Bentonville.
Mrs. Mathews was born Jan. 15, 1918, daughter of the late Minnie Fristoe Cullers and Lester Cullers in Bentonville, where she was a life-long resident . She graduated from Warren County High School in Front Royal. She married Alton, the love of her life in 1936. They took up residence in Bentonville and lived there for 47 years as husband and wife until Alton's death in 1983. She retired in 1972 as Postmaster from the Bentonville Post Office. She remained there until she was taken ill and became a resident of Lynn Care Center in Front Royal in 2009.
She is survived by a daughter Sue Mathews Wright of Reston; a granddaughter Laura Shubert of Charlotte, NC; and three great-grandsons Ryan, Jacob, and Stephen Shubert all of Charlotte, NC. She was predeceased by a grandson Andy Wright.
Pallbearers will be David Buracker, Charles Ingles, Kenneth Thurston, Barry Brandon, and Robert Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nelson Zollman, Joseph Stoneberger, Jr., Luther Laing, and Robert Cullers.
The family will receive friends on Friday morning one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
