Lee was the son of Hezekiah Lindsey & Margaret (Kester) Reece. He married Ida O. Staggs on February 14, 1880 in Clay County, Indiana. They had 2 children. After Ida died, Lee married Alice Hughbanks on June 10, 1901 in Sullivan County, Indiana.

Taken from the September 6, 1941 issue of the Terre Haute Tribune:

Leander Elwood Reece, 83 years old, died at the home of his son S.R. Reece, RR 5, at 9:10 o'clock Saturday morning. Surviving are the son, one daughter, Mrs. Lola Pointer, Coalmont, Ind,; two sisters, Mrs. Violetta Maze, Indian Springs, Ind. and Mrs. Caroline Goucher, Clinton; five grandchildren and several nieces and cousins. The body was taken to the Fox Funeral Home at Riley, Ind. and will be returned Sunday to the house of the son, where funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. Burial will be in the Stagss Cemetery, south of Cory.

Note: Lola was a step-daughter. She was the daughter of George & Alice Hughbanks.
