She was born September 9, 1915, in Antioch, Louisiana. Mrs. Bronstad was a graduate of Homer High School in Homer, Louisiana, and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. Her family lived in Troup, Texas, before moving to Kilgore in the early 1940s. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Kilgore, where she taught in the Junior Department and was a youth sponsor. Mrs. Bronstad was a member of the Kilgore Woman's Club and Kilgore Garden Club.
Sarah moved to Longview in the mid-1990s. She became a supporter of the Longview Symphony Orchestra, where she was a member of the Prelude organization. She was honored by the Longview youth Symphony in May 2002. Mrs. Bronstad was a member of the Dance Club of Longview. Her family spent much time in Colorado, where she enjoyed fly fishing.
Mrs. Bronstad is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Mary Jon Bass of Longview; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Lurene and Don Jones of Denton; brother-in-law, Archie Monroe of Magnolia, Arkansas; son-in-law, William L. "Bill" Hill of Dallas; dear friend, Gene Mathews of Longview; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert M. Bass and Byron G. Bronstad; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. "Bob" and Florence Bass; a daughter, Loey Hill; a grandson, Peter Noise; a brother, J.L. Schley; and sisters, Lurene Boden and Elena Monroe.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to caregivers, Darlene Clark, Tasha Russell, Rosie Chism, Nanette Epps and Rachelle Henderson. Also, the family would like to recognize Bethany Home Health.
