Marian (Hiner) Ackerman was born on Saturday; August 24, 1912 in Moneta; O'Brien County, Iowa. She was the daughter of: George Elmer and Ida Mae (Pearson) Hiner. She graduated from high school in Ames; Story County, Iowa, and then earned a B.S. degree in Nutrition from Iowa State University, also in Ames. On Wednesday; August 5, 1936, she and Kenneth Kahler Ackerman were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua; Chickasaw County, Iowa. Mrs. Ackerman taught high school level Home Economics and Biology in Clemons; Marshall County, Iowa and other surrounding school systems. She retired in 1969, but remained active as a substitute and assistant teacher. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rowley; Buchanan County, Iowa, the Independence Garden Club, the Red Hat Ladies and the Order of Eastern Star. Also for many years, Mrs. Ackerman practiced her craft as a china painter. Marian (Hiner) Ackerman, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center LTC in Independence; Buchanan County, Iowa following a short illness. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her husband of 71 years: Kenneth. Her two daughters: Kay (Patrick Wills) Ackerman of Houston; Harris County, Texas and Jean (Jim) Cizek of Saint Louis; Saint Louis County, Missouri and her three grandchildren: LCDR (USN) Christopher (Renae) Cizek of Jacksonville; Duval County, Florida, MAJ (USA) Michael Cizek of Heidelberg, Germany and Susan Cizek of Gallup; McKinley County, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. May they rest in peace. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Rowley, Iowa, with Pastor Sheri Andersen officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Roger Marks, organist. Honorary Casket Bearers were LCDR (USN) Christopher Cizek and MAJ (USA) Michael Cizek. Casket Bearers were Jim Cizek, Patrick Wills, Jerry Jensen, Max Grover, and Carl VanTasell. Burial was in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa. For condolences, please visit the funeral home's website.
