Jessie LaVerne Elder was the first child of Fredrick Kenneth Elder (Fred) and Zona Velma Shepard Elder (Velma). She was born October 22, 1919 in Pratt, Kansas. Later Fred and Velma had two more children, Fredrick Kenneth Elder, Jr. (Freddie) and Neola Rosalyn Elder (Rosie). Jessie married Forrest SJ Covey on November 7, 1942 in Oklahoma. Forrest and Jessie had the following children: Kathleen (Katy), Forrest, Johnny, Betty and Cherry while living in Pratt and Cunningham, Kansas. In 1955 Forrest and Jessie moved their family to Texas with the first stop in Vernon, followed by Richmond, Rosenberg and ending up in Luling, Texas. Life was not easy when she was left with 5 children to raise by herself. Her faith in God and her abundant love for her children got her through the rough times. She was so proud of her children. Jessie married Weldon B. Wood on October 22, 1966. She moved to Seguin, Texas in 1974 upon her divorce from Weldon. Jessie loved to travel. She traveled to numerous places including Australia, South America, Israel and Egypt in addition to traveling to visit her son Johnny's family in Mexico, Holland and Germany. With the exception of an extended stay with daughter Betty's family in Runge, Texas, Jessie lived in Seguin until her death August 6, 2008.
