Wally enlisted in the Navy on Nov. 22, 1942, in San Diego and was honorably discharged April 1, 1946, in Bremerton, Wash. He received the Victory Medal and 11 major Battle Stars. He was aboard the USS Rocky Mount., USS Essex and USS Mount Olympus.
On April 13, 1946, he married Geraldine and they had four children.
After the Navy he worked as a bookkeeper. He then served as a police officer for 18 years with the Oregon State Police, Dallas Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Wally was a member of the Sheriff's Posse. He also farmed produce for several years. He was the co-owner of the Independence Airport. He enjoyed horses, golfing, and traveling to Arizona in the winters.
Geraldine preceded him in death. On Dec. 5, 1980, he married Marie.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ron.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; children, Mike, Cathy and Tommy; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
