Mary Alice Allen Dies In Childress


CHILDRESS, Tex. (Special) - Mrs. Mary Alice Allen, 85, a Childress resident since 1930, died Saturday in a hospital here.


Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe S. Allen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery under direction of Newberry Funeral Home.


Mrs. Allen was born Oct. 18, 1884, in Kearns, Tex. She married W.M. Allen on Jan. 1, 1901, in Chilicothe. He died in 1964.


The Allens moved to Childress in 1930 from Quanah. He operated grocery stores both in Quanah and in Childress.


Survivors include two sons, W.M. Jr. of Childress, and James E. of San Antonio; five daughters, Mrs. Velma Trigg of Childress; Mrs. Laura Barnett of Lubbock; Mrs. Wilma Jones of CeeVee; Mrs. Eula Davis of Tampa, Fla.; and Mrs. Ruby Dickerson, Lamesa; a sister, Mrs. Harry Cobb of Vernon; nine grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
