Rachel Harris was born in Ohio, March 28, 1838. She moved with her parents to Indiana in 1841, where she resided until 1854, moving to Boone County, Iowa, which was then a virgin prairie. She was married to John H. Thomas in 1855, locating on a farm one mile from Boone, where they remained until 1877 when they moved to Kansas. Her husband died leaving her with a large family among strangers. She bought the farm in Albion township on which she still resided at the time of her death.
She is survived by three sisters, two brothers, ten children, forty-eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many friends.
She was converted when young, has been a member of the M. E. church since coming to Kansas. Although a great sufferer for many years she relied in God for comfort at all times.
