Thomas Judson "T.J." Thayer

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at a 4 p.m. runeral Mass Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Thomas Judson "T.J." Thayer, 79, who passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at his Lafayette residence.

The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Crowley, will be celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Mr. Thayer, a native of Lafayette, was the son of the late Walcott Wilder Thayer of Lafayette and the former Frances Cockerell of Odessa, Mo. He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy having served in World War II. T.J. loved and appreciated everyone with whom he came in contact. He was the owner/operator of Bon Voyage Marine in Grand Isle. He also operated Oil City Realty in Grand Isle. He worked for Gulf States Utilities Company for 22 years. He attended Lafayette High School where he was a member of the football and boxing teams.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Raggio Thayer, of Lafayette; three sons, Karl Dean Thayer and wife, Sherrie, of Grand Isle, Keith Wayne Thayer and wife, Sheila, of Raceland, and Chris Bryan Thayer and wife, Karen, of Baton Rouge; nine grandchildren, Chuck Arabie, Brandon Arabie, Stephannie Arabie, Bryan Thayer, Karla Ledet, Michael Gillespie, Jason Thayer, Lucia Thayer and Arianna Thayer; and four great grandchildren, Andrew Sullivan, Dakota Arabie, Bryce Ledet and Reese Arabie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter Thayer and Gervais Thayer; one sister, Betty May Huey; one daughter, Claire Lynn Thayer Arabie; one great-grandchild, Breanna Arabie; maternal grandmother, Maybelle Hall; and paternal grandmother, Eliza Jane Wilder.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Friday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will continue Saturday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
