Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Fruit, a resident of Corvallis for 50 years who passed away Saturday in a ocal hospital following a long illness, will be held in the chapel of the McHenry Funeral Home Tuesday at 10:30 am with Rev. Leonard Thomson officiating. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The daughter of Eli W. and Jane Hodges Michael, an early Oregon Pioneer family (her father came to Oregon in 1846 (sic)). She was born October 26, 1864 on the family donation land claim near Brownsville. She was married to Martin P. Fruit on January 9, 1890 at Brownsville where the couple made their home on a farm for 10 years. They moved to Corvallis in 1900 where Mr. Fruit operated a livery stable and also ran the ferry across the Willamette for a few years. Mr. Fruit passed away in 1936 and a son Glenn, passed away in 1948. Since her husband's death she has made her home in Corvallis having been in ill health for the past several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Corvallis, The Neighbors of Woodcraft, and the Maccabbes. She is survived by three sons: Victor E. (sic) and Cecil W. Fruit, both of Corvallis, George H. of Halsey; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
