PVT AVERY WIGHTMAN BURROWS

Avery Wightman Burrows was born in 1842 in Deposit, Delaware Co, NY, the son of Warren H. and Agnes Burrows.

Avery served in the Civil War enlisting on 17 Oct 1861 at Tompkins, Delaware Co, NY and being mustered into Co C., 27th NY Infantry on 30 Oct 1861.

Avery fought in the battles of Bull Run, Manassas, Second Bull Run, Gaines' Mill, Savage's Station, South Mountain, Crampton's Gap, Antietam, and Fredericksburg.

He received a disability discharge and was mustered out on 20 Feb 1863 at White Oaks (Church), Fairfax Co, VA.

He died at his widowed mother's home in Tompkins, P.O. Cannonsville, Delaware Co, NY on 15 May 1863.

Gravesite Details

Date of birth on the stone is incorrect. Avery's older brother Andrew was born in Oct 1840. The 1850 and 1860 Census' support a year of birth of 1842 for Avery, as do his military files.
