Obituary - Beadleston- At Brooklyn, March 19, 1896, Mary Beadleston, in her 73d year. Funeral services at the residence of Mr. Carl Sanford, 431 Clermont Ave., Brooklyn, Friday evening at 8 o'clock. Interment at Coram, Medford Station, L.I., Saturday; train leaves Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn at 8:25 a.m.

Death Record - Mary Beadleston, aged 73, widowed, of 431 Clermont Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, born 1823 on Long Island, died on March 19, 1896, in Brooklyn, NY, and was buried at Coram, L.I. on March 21, 1896.

Estate - Riverhead, L.I., July 21- Notice of contest of the will of Mrs. Mary Beadleston, who died in Brooklyn, March 19, last, was filed in the Surrogate's Court here yesterday afternoon. The contestants are Charles M. Sanford and Arthur Sanford, both of Hauppauge, and nephews of the deceased.

Mary Beadleston, who was 79 years of age at the time of her death, was the widow of Ebenezer Beadleston, a New York brewer. After her husband's decease, the widow took up her residence at Hauppauge, where her brother, the late William H. Sanford, resided. Mrs. Beadleston made her home with her nephew, Arthur Sanford in part, and part of the time she lived in the family of her half brother, William Donaldson, a Hauppauge merchant.

Mrs. Beadletson's fortune is estimated at aout $150,000. The contest is made in the interest of dependent relatives. The answer to the petition of William H. Sanford and West Pollock, the executors, states as the grounds for the contest general incompetency and restraint. Also that the papers are not in due form. One of the contestants, Charles M. Sanford, inherited a fortune from his father, William H. Sanford, a brother of Mrs. Beadleston. William H. Sanford was a retired pork packer and quoted as a millionaire.

Mrs. Beadleston wanted her brother to make a will giving a share of his property to nephews and nieces, who were in somewhat straitened circumstances. Mr. Sanford refused his sister's request and his fortune went to his only son. This angered Mrs. Beadleston and she ceased to visit the house. Mrs. Beadleston often afterward, it is said, made the remark that her fortune should be distributed, a portion of it to each of her relatives who had in a great measure been dependent upon her. Her nephews, George R. Sanford, Nicoll E. Sanford, and Arthur Sanford, were great favorites, and Wallace Donaldson and William Donaldson had been assured by her that they would be substantially remembered in the will.

At the time the codicil was made Mrs. Beadleston was paying a visit to her brother, Carl Osman Sanford of Brooklyn. Mrs. Beadleston died fifteen days after making the codicil, which seriously modified the bequests to her poor relatives, giving them only the interest of $8,000 each. Carl Sanford, the brother, appears as a beneficiary to the amount of $50,000.

William H. Sanford, a nephew, and West Pollack, a friend, are named as the executors, without bonds, and are to receive the residuary estate.

The name of Charles M. Sanford, one of the contestants, does not appear in the will, although in a former will it is said he was made sole legatee without bonds. Sanford himself is wealthy and says he is fighting for the other relatives. Henry C. Johnson of New York is the attorney for the contestants.
