William G. Proctor, 90, died peacefully early Tues. morning, May 30, 2006 surrounded by his loving daughters. Bill was born Mar. 4, 1916 in Waterville the son of Elva (Larrabee) and John Proctor.

He was educated in the Waterville schools. In 1940 he married the love of his life, Arlene Lessard. They shared 65 wonderful years together raising their five children and running the family business. In Bill's younger years he worked for Hollingsworth and Whitney as a millwright. In 1947 he opened his own Texaco station on North Street that he built and named ''Proctor's Super Service Station''. As his business expanded he sold used cars and then acquired the AMC and Land Rover dealerships. He had the second Land Rover dealership in the State of Maine. He had many commercial plowing accounts in Waterville and maintained equipment for Colby College and Harris Bakery. He was also a deputy sheriff in Kennebec county for many years. As a self-educated man, he was a ''jack of all trades: and master of all. In his later years he and Arlene traveled to Florida in the winter months in their motor home. They also loved sailing along the coast of Maine in their boat, ''The Skat''.

Bill was predeceased by his wife and son, William Jr.; his parents; four siblings, Kenneth, Mark, Francis, and Lottie.

He is survived by his four daughters, Linda and David Damon of Waterville and Montgomery, Alabama, Rebecca Arp-Proctor of Waterville and Harry Arp of Amsterdam, Amanda Proctor of Winslow and Myrtle Beach, Emily and Jeff Broseghini of Dracut, Mass.; his sisters, Johnette Kemp (his Irish twin) and Maxine Williams; his sisters-in-law, Mary and Helen Proctor; nine grandchildren, Arlene and Kelly O'Rourke of Portland, John Damon of Brunswick, April Damon of So. Portland, Melissa Arp and ''Chief'' of Belair, MD., Thomas Levensalor of Sangerville, Christian Lander of Billerica, MA. and Jeremy Lander of Maynard, MA; and by fifteen great grandchildren.
