S-Sgt. Willard A. Green, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira R. Green, 811 Constitution, was killed in action over Germany on September 30, 1944. Last October the War Department had reported that Sergeant Green, a gunner on a B-25 bomber, was missing in action and no further official news had been received until the recent telegram to his parents. All nine crewman on the bomber were killed, the Greens have learned in correspondence with relatives of the other men.
Sergeant Green was inducted into the Army from Emporia on December 27, 1942. He had been overseas since April 1, 1943.. He worked for the Ritz Cleaning shop here and at the Boeing aircraft plant in Wichita before entering the service.
Willard Arthur Green was born in Emporia, September 22, 1923. He attended Emporia schools and was graduated from the Senior High in 1939. He was member of the Free Methodist church.
Sergeant Green is survived by his parents, one sister, Iretta Brumbaugh, Emporia, two brothers in the Army, T-Sgt Eugene R. Green, stationed in Italy and now enroute home, and T-Sgt, Harold W. Green, with the army of occupation in Germany.
