GEORGE WILLIAM COX

DEL RIO - George William Cox Jr., 52, died Saturday, March 12, 2005.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, March 14, at G.W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon John Graf officiating. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, at Sacred Heart Church in Del Rio with Father Jim Fischler, O.M.I, officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors provided by Fort Sam Houston of San Antonio.
He was born Oct. 10, 1952, in Del Rio to George W. Sr. and Marie Cox. He represented the fourth generation of his family to live in Del Rio. George graduated from Del Rio High School in 1971, and joined the U.S. Army immediately thereafter. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he graduated from Commonwealth School of Mortuary Science in Houston.

George married his wife, Judy, in 1979. He worked as funeral
director in Houston and Conroe before moving back to Del Rio in 1987 to open G.W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home. It was his dream to open a funeral home in his father's name, and for him, that dream would be realized even if his venture had not succeeded. George was a member of the Del Rio Host Lion's Club and of the Elk's Lodge.

His survivors include his wife, Judy of Del Rio; his daughter, Tiffany of Lubbock; his mother, Marie of Del Rio; his brother, Leonard of Houston; his sister, Andrea of Spring; and his uncle and aunt, Tom and Minnie McCoy of Houston.

His sister, Georgana, who died in 1959, and his father, George W. Cox Sr., who died in 1974, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers include David Allen, David Wharton, Billy Foster, J.J. Foster, Dean Hildreth and Victor Bolner. Honorary pallbearers include Vicente Flores, David Vela, James Suares, Charles Walker, Charlie Hunt, Jimmy Sellers, Cody Schauer, Alton Everett, Humberto Aguirre and Sam Bell.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests donations be made to the Melinda Pierce Scholarship Fund in memory of George W. Cox Jr. at the Bank & Trust. Ms. Pierce was especially kind and attentive to George and to his mother while at St. Luke's Hospital in San Antonio,
and George would be pleased to see her dream of a nursing career be fulfilled.
