Guy R. Neher Died Saturday Evening; Funeral Wednesday

Guy R. Neher passed away suddenly at his home here Saturday afternoon, November 2nd. His death came as a shock to his many friends who had not learned that he had been in ill health for the previous week. Although he had been feeling very poorly he had insisted on going to his work at the city auditor's office and even a few minutes before he collapsed he made an effort to make the trip. He started out and had gone only a short distance and returned to his home, complaining that he was feeling worse, and without further warning he collapsed and passed way within a few minutes.

He was born August 15, 1875 at Roseville, California. He came to Dell Rapids with his parents, Isaac Nathaniel and Caroline "Carrie" Bevier Neher in 1879, and had made this place his home since that time. At death he had reached the age of 71 years, 2 months and 19 days.

He was a member of the first graduation class from Dell Rapids high school. Following graduation he entered the post office as a clerk, a position he held for several years. Serving under Postmasters W.C. Nisbet and Fred Bowles, being deputy postmaster under the latter's administration. He was appointed postmaster December 14, 1921, serving in that capacity under administration of Presidents Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover, terminating his third appointment on June 30th, 1935.

Since May, 1936, he has served the city as auditor, and was active in that work until his death.

During his term as postmaster, as well as that of city auditor, he had been a most courteous, efficient official. He was a congenial gentleman, blessed with a fine personality and during his lifetime here had acquired an untold number of steadfast friends.

He is survived by one sister, Ruby, of Dell Rapids, one aunt and several cousins.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A.L. Walker, former pastor of the Dell Rapids Methodist Church, now of Alpena, S.Dak., Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Hermanson funeral chapel. Burial was made in the family lot in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
