The body of Clarence A. Zigler, 58, with a bullet wound in the forehead, was found by J. R. Roper, a neighbor, who went to his house in the Altamont district Monday morning.
Investigating officers were called and pronounced the death an accident Zigler had been alone in the house. It appeared he moved a suitcase behind his bed and leaned over to pick up a .22 caliber rifle. The officers believe he picked it up by the muzzle and the trigger caught, discharging the bullet into Zigler's forehead.
They set the time of the accident as sometime Friday afternoon. A neighbor had talked to Zigler at noon. He had not taken his Friday afternoon newspaper from
the doorstep.
The remains were brought to the Whitlock funeral home. Dr. George Alder, coroner, State Policeman James Busch and Deputy Sheriff Dale Mattoon investigated.
His wife was Mary (Osborn) Zigler born July 21, 1880 in Linn County. They married in Albany, Oregon on April 23, 1907.
