Reverend William Henry Starr was the son of Joshua Starr and Fenton Melear. He was a Methodist Circuit Rider Minister in Alabama, as were many of my Starr Ancestors. He was originally from Henry County, Georgia, and moved to Chambers County, Alabama in the late 1830's. After the death of William's first wife Mahala in 1851 he married Mrs. Mary Hawkins and by 1854 he and Mary were settled in Smith County, Texas north of Tyler on Ray Creek. William owned 1,683 acres of land when he died in 1864. He is buried in the Starr-Hawkins Cemetery, where his grandson James Alva Knowles erected a monument his honor.

Children with Mahala: Williamson Bird, Frances E, James N, Mary H, Mahala Anne, John Wesley, Amanda Fletcher,Sarah Bird,Jane S, Henrietta J Quill, William and Thomas.

Children with Mary: Emma Eliza, Medora, Mary Eugenia Henrietta and John W Starr.
