Son of Samuel and Mary Rhoades Myers. Birthname was Alexander J. Myers; for unknown reasons, he also went by Alec Myres, and his descendants all used the Myres spelling.
Alec was a school teacher and graduated in the first class of what is now Clarion State College, PA. Alexander eventually moved to Natrona, PA (Nancy had a sister in this area), where he worked as a postmaster. This is unverified as the post office closed. He was killed by a train on November 29, 1899. (They lived on a short, 2 block long street between the river and the tracks.) He is buried by himself in Oakland Cemetery in Distant (Mahoning), not with the Churchville or Truitt clan in Madison. Nancy never remarried and even though his sons Wendell & Carey ("Kit") made good money, Alec was never moved to the family plots. The 1900 census showed the family still in Natrona. The 1910 census shows Nancy, Wendell, & Blanda, living together in Verona and on the same street, Kit (who had married and had two children). Alec's family resided in Girard, Ohio, and no one knows why they changed their name from Myers to Myres. The Ohio branch believes Alec had changed it, but no reason as to why.
Armstrong Democrat, Friday, December 1, 1899: Ex postmaster Meyers of Natrona was killed Tuesday morning on the West Penn railroad near his home. He had just stepped out on the track and was struck by the Freeport accommodation west. His body was hurled against the box car and the fog was so dense the engineer did not know he had struck anyone.
At the time of his death, a telegraph dated November 29, 1899 was sent to his son Carey B. ("Kit") Myers in Natrona, PA via the Western Union Telegraph. It states: "Your father was killed by train. Come home at once."
