After Nancy's death, Durward married Elizabeth Thompson. Durward loved gospel music, coon dogs and beagle hounds.
Durward was a farmer, rubber worker for a couple of years, and then a security officer for T.C.I. in Birmingham. He retired to a cattle farm on Smith Lake in SW Cullman County. He was a leader in gospel music.
