Garbo was the mother of 7 children. She was divorced from O.E. Blyton. She was an incredibly spunky great great grandmother! She once fussed at my great grandmother over ice cream. Around the summer of 1982 while visiting Garbo and Grandma Graupman, Grandma Graupman asked Garbo more than once if she wanted ice cream. Finally Garbo said loudly, "I SAID YES!" She lived independently until age 101 or 102 when she fell and broke her hip.

Della Blyton, widow of a pioneer lower Snake River Orchardist, died of causes incident to aging at 4:45p.m. Sunday at Tri-State Convalescent Center. She was 103. Her home was at 1255 Belmont Way, Clarkston.
Her husband, Orland E. Blyton, managed the pioneer White Bros. and Crum fruit ranch at Wawawai for many years, and they lived at the downriver orchard.
That orchard and a number of others west of Lewiston-Clarkston were inundated by backwaters of Lower Granite Dam in the mid-1970's, Mrs. Blyton noted sadly in an interview in 1978.
She was born March 20, 1880, at Pilot Mound, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Cora Gifford. She attended school at Pilot Mound. Her mother died when she was 12, and her father remarried and brought the family to Lewiston.
The family arrived in the valley Feb. 22, 1902, and spent the first night in the old Hotel DeFrance. They soon moved to Woodland in the Kamiah area and she returned to Lewiston.
She worked at the L.A. Porter ranch in 1903. The Potlatch Corp.'s Clearwater Mill now is located at that site.
She married Blyton the last day of 1903 at Woodland, and they lived at the Clarkston area for several years, then moved to the downriver fruit ranch. Blyton's Landing was named after the family. Her father-in-law operated a ferry. They returned to Lewiston in 1922 and purchased from the late Ray J. White the first home the pioneer realtor ever sold on Normal Hill at 1411 10th St.
She moved to Clarkston in 1942 and became a member of the First Methodist Church of the city. She later became a member of the Nelson-Brewer Guild of Tri-State Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include three daughters, Mae Anderson of Clarkston, Bernice Graupman of Spokane and Elvira Hood of Hermiston, Ore.; a son, Gifford Blyton of Lexington, Ky.; a half-sister Esther McCoy of Hinsdale, Ill., seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Harriet Johnson, in 1966, and a son, Paul, in infancy.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Merchant Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Gordon Harrison of the Clarkston United Methodist Church and Arlie Whybark, retired, of Clarkston officiating. Burial will be at Vineland Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Clarkston.
