His parents and sister Anna left Ireland and settled in farmland in Ellice Township, Perth County, Ontario in Upper Canada as it was known then. Free land was advertised in Ireland by the Canada Company which lured many Irish people to Canada to get away from the potato famine. Most of the family left Ontario and settled in Bay County Michigan.
His death cert lists his birthplace as Pennsylvania which may be possible but there is no information to show that the family traveled to the US and then back to Ontario. The death cert informant was his wife. No other siblings were born outside of the Ontario area. He married Ellen and is listed with children in the
1880 census: Thomas H 1873, Mary 1875, Philip 1876, Joseph J. 1878, Ellen 1880
1900 census: Philip 1876, Joseph J. 1878, Bernard 1884, Mary B 1890
After Thomas died Ellen and the children moved to Port Huron, Michigan.
