Funeral services for Mr. Max Riley, 90, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2007, at Forsythe Avenue Church of Christ with Don Glover, Jason Barnard, and Tommy Inman officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. Riley passed away Tuesday, October 02, 2007. He was Director Emeritus of Ouachita National Bank Board of Directors, and founding member and Elder Emeritus of Forsythe Avenue Church of Christ. He also served many years with Monroe Chamber of Commerce, United Givers' Fund (now United Way) serving as 1967 Campaign Chairman, YMCA(served as a fund raiser for the YMCA building), and was President and Chairman of the Board of Ouachita Christian School. He was also a member of Monroe Rotary Club, Lotus Club, Bayou DeSiard Country Club, ROMEO's, and Kind Words Coffee Group.
Mr. Riley's work history includes President of Southwest Gas Producing Company, Inc., and Commonwealth Gas Corporation; Partner of Riley Oil and Gas; and Investor in Eagle Plastics.
Mr. Riley was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Koelling Riley; and second wife, Jo Ann Biedenharn Sager Riley.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Funches Usrey Riley; son, Mike and his wife Mignon Riley of Monroe; grandson and his wife, Kevin and Verena Riley and their children Max, Micah, and Ben Riley, all of Pearisburg, VA; granddaughter and her husband, Sarah and Troy Stirman and their children, Ashley and Riley Stirman, all of Abilene, TX; sons and their wives, Bernard and Angie Sager and their children, Mike Sager and his children, Harlan and Dawn Sager and their children, Tommy and Melanie Usrey and their children, all of Monroe, LA; and daughter, Linda Griffin and her children of Lafayette, LA.
Pallbearers will be White Graves, DDS; Don Marx, MD; Micah Harper, Paul Benjamin, Joe Casiday, and David Burkett. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Edmondson, Tom Baker, members of the Kind Words Coffee Group, and the ROMEO's.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Memorials may be made to the Ouachita Christian School or to the Forsythe Avenue Church of Christ.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the sitters, Patient's Choice Hospice, and Dr. Marx for the care of Mr. Riley.
