William Smith Chenoweth, a soldier in the Virginia Militia, is the son of John (1735-1812) and Mary Chenoweth.
William married first to Catherine Rinker in 1783, and had William, Casper and Sarah. The family resided on 200 acres on Raccoon Run, a drain of Back Creek in Western Frederick Co. Virginia. Catherine was the daughter of Casper and Mary (Schuz) Rinker. Catherine died around 1810.
William S. Chenoweth married second to Ann (McCool) Lewis, widow of John Lewis, who died in 1807.
In 1812, John Chenoweth, father of William, died in Hampshire Co.VA. William and Ann then removed to Warren Co. Ohio. They became members of the Middle Run Baptist Church, located across the county line in Greene Co. William resided on property in Wayne Township, Warren Co. Ohio, until 1827, when they removed to a farm in Washington Township, Warren Co.
Two daughters of William S. Chenoweth met two Franklin boys, who were sons of Thomas and Hannah (Sibley) Franklin, of Warren Co. Ohio. Nelly Chenoweth married Eli Franklin, and her sister Sarah Chenoweth, married Eli's brother John Henry Franklin. The Franklin family came from New York, and settled in Warren and Allen Counties of Ohio.
