Nellie was the oldest child of my grandparents Paul and Ruby Lanning Hines. She died from the results of burns to her body from a fire. According to her death certificate her clothing caught fire from an outside burning that got away. At the time of her death she had several siblings, Joann (Lemmons), Betty (Caroll), Gerldine (Jordan), Paul Hines, and my mother Margaret Alice (Williams).

My mother was only seven months old at the time of her oldest sister's death. According to stories to passed to me my mother was playing on a quilt in the family yard, while the rest of the children played close by. My Grandfather was burning brush that got out of hand and Nellie went to rescue my mother when her dress tail caught on fire. She was unable to put out the fire. She died a day later at Divine Savior Hospital in York, but not before she made my grandfather promise to never drink alchol again --- he kept his promise to his death. I'm looking forward to meeting the sister - who even at a young age - put her self in harms way to save my mother.
