Mary Catherine Legate of Las Cruces died March 31, 2008. She was born on February 14, 1927, in Idabel, Oklahoma, the only child of Robert and Ida Carter.
Catherine and Buster Legate were married from 1945 until his death in 1988. They are survived by three daughters: Ollie Ziehl (husband John) and Robbie Morgan of Las Cruces and Janece Johnson of Albuquerque; three grandchildren: Paul Morgan (wife Heidi) of Albuquerque, Michael Tune of Seattle, Araceli Artalejo Ziehl of Las Cruces; and two great grandchildren: Scott and Joseph Morgan of Albuquerque.Catherine earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma and a Masters in Extension Education from New Mexico State University. She taught high school in Lordsburg, NM then relocated to Las Cruces where she worked as an editor for the NMSU Extension Service until her retirement in 1989.
She was a member of the church and worshiped with the Church of Christ at Panlener Avenue where, even though she was an only child, she has many brothers and sisters in Christ.
The ashes of Buster and Catherine Legate, former residents of Stonewall, Okla., and more recent residents of Las Cruces, NM, will be interred at Highland Cemetery in Stonewall on Saturday, July 20 at 10am. Mrs. Legate's death on March 31, 2008, was preceded by Mr. Legate's death in 1988.
They are survived by three daughters, Ollie Ziehl and Robbie Morgan of Las Cruces, NM, and Jan Johnson of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren, Paul Morgan, Albuquerque, NM, Michael Tune, Seattle, Wash, and Araceli Artalejo Ziehl, Las Cruces, NM; and two great-grandsons, Scott and Joseph Morgan, Albuquerque, NM.
