He was born April 8, 1914, in Menard County, the son of William Joseph and Mary Alice Dailey Ball. He married Helen Vaughn in 1935 in Petersburg. A son, John William Ball, and a daughter, Katherine Mullens, preceded him in death.
Mr. Ball retired in 1976 from Fiatallis after 33 years and 7 month of service. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Petersburg.
Survivors: wife, Helen; two sons, Thomas S. Ball of Oklahoma, and Joseph E. Ball of Lincoln; three daughters, Julia A. (husband, Karl) Ware of Atlanta, Helen Ball of Petersburg and Frances (husband, Sonny) Shun of Rockford; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Hopper of Petersburg.
